CHALLENGE QUILT: BIRTHSTONE

EVERYONE HAS A BIRTHSTONE!

Maria Schmidt’s “Dames and Diamonds” (detail)

Do you remember when you found out what your birthstone was? Were you excited or disappointed? Did you love yours or did you have birthstone envy? Here's your chance to make any birthstone color the centerpiece of this challenge quilt. Either work with your own birthstone or commit birthstone larceny and steal someone else's birthstone color.

Your challenge is to use this birthstone color as the major color in your quilt...a minimum of 50% of your quilt must be this color. The quilt when finished will measure 30 inches by 30 inches. In your quilt description at time of entry, tell us the birthstone and, if it's not yours, why you "borrowed" it. Any and all techniques may be used, but all entries must follow all the basic Quilt Entry Rules.

So that we all are viewing the same birthstone charts (modern and traditional), please refer to the following website:

International Gem Society’s Birthstone chart (click here): Scroll down a short ways, and you will see the two charts side by side. Choose from either chart the birthstone you will use.

We can't wait to see how you meet this challenge!
