NACQJ AWARD OF MERIT (Sue Cortese, judge)
I have framed an original African textile from Karlokeh, Liberia (W. Africa) with a quilt of my own construction. I wanted to showcase the subtle coloring and complexity of this original historical textile—a torn piece of Damask cotton with a stamped floral repeat; pleated and stitched; dipped in indigo dye, the ends dipped in the same dye. Finished, it was a body wrap—skirt, top, head.
FLOWER PATCH

MAYOR’S CHOICE
This quilt was made over a period of nine months during a mystery quilt-along. All blocks were paper pieced with new block templates given every two weeks. I modified the tulip blocks to suit my taste and added flying geese borders. It was a fun and challenging experience.

I made this quilt from some orphan blocks my husband purchased: 4 yards of 'that' 30's green solid, 2 vintage 9 patch quilts I deconstructed, some new (2020) fabric and a little from my collection (stash). This is the first quilt I quilted on my new Handiquilter Capri.
THE SEAMSTRESS

Lockport, New York
INSTRUCTOR RECOGNITION (Sue Nickels)
This is an Edyta Pattern that spoke to me. I discarded her sweet colors because I wanted something a little bolder and envisioned it with a lot of pink and black. It was an interesting construction but OMG, the fun began when I quilted it.
COLOR MY WORLD
Becky Miller
Robinson, Illinois
INSTRUCTOR RECOGNITION (Maria Shell)
My first online BOM with TheQuiltShow.com. I tweaked the pattern by drafting the last four homes we lived in. These are at 3, 6, 9, and 12:00 on outer circle. Added dancing girls for my granddaughters who love to dance!
FLOWER POWER
Karen Hampton
Evansville, Indiana
INSTRUCTOR RECOGNITION (Becky Goldsmith)
Getting a good photo of the hummingbird was difficult. The photo used to print the image on fabric was soft and subtle on the hummingbird detail, so I defined it with thread painting to add sharp contrast.
ICEBERG FOLLY

INSTRUCTOR RECOGNITION (Marilyn Foreman)
This is my first designed quilt. It took me over a year to create the design, but once I found the EQ7, it went faster. I paper pieced the bear and iceberg. Fish and puffins are hand appliquéd and painted on fabric. The bear is appliquéd to underwater background.
