CRITICAL DATES
- February 1, 2010 ENTRY DEADLINE. Entries CANNOT be postmarked later than this date.
- February 14, 2010 Last date for pre-registration.
- February 15, 2010 Shipping information packets received by entrants. If you have not received your packet by this date, e-mail entries@ihqs.org or phone 812-391-0009.
- February 26, 2010 All shipped entries must arrive at IHQS.
- March 1, 2010 All hand-delivered entries must be at IHQS.
- March 6, 2010 Walk-in pickup of items at show site. Entries available 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. only. NO EARLY RELEASE OF QUILTS.
- March 8, 2010 All shipped entries delivered to FedEx Center.
19th Annual Indiana Heritage Quilt Show Entry
ENTRY RULES
All entries must be made of fabric, have three layers and contain quilting.
Entries must be made entirely by one person, unless entered in “Ensemble” categories.
Quilts entirely made by someone other than the entrant will be accepted as display, but cannot compete.
- All persons involved in making the entry must be listed on the entry form. If not an original design, design credit must be given to the source.
- Entrants determine the categories in which items are entered. Quilts cannot be re-categorized during
judging.
- Definitions:
| Bed Quilts: |
Intended for use on a bed. Maximum of 120” on any side. |
| Wall Quilts: |
Intended for display on a wall. Maximum of 120” on any side. |
| Appliquéd Quilts: |
Appliqué predominates over other techniques in amount or effect. |
| Pieced Quilts: |
Piecing predominates over other techniques in amount or effect. |
| Mixed Techniques: |
Mixed Techniques include two or more reasonably balanced construction techniques are used to develop design of the quilt top. |
| Special Techniques: |
Special Techniques may include but are not limited to cross-stitch, embroidery, thread painting, wholecloth, three-dimensional work, and painting. |
| Fabric Art Quilts: |
Fabric Art includes original work (not a copy or adaptation of a previous work) created as works of visual art, reflecting innovative construction and design techniques, themes, subject matter and/or materials. |
| Small Scale Quilts: |
Entries must be proportionately accurate renderings of larger quilts, and may include but are not limited to portraits, landscapes, wholecloth and miniatures. Quilts are limited to 30” on any side. |
| Ensemble Quilts: |
Ensemble categories include entries made by two or more individuals. This definition includes all techniques, as well as quilting performed by someone other than the maker. |
| First Entry: |
Entrants submitting a quilt to IHQS for the first time are eligible for this award. |
| Exemplary Use of Color: |
Best integration of color and design as determined by the Judges.

| Innovation in Design: |
Original designs which reflect innovative construction and design techniques may be considered for this award. No commercial patterns or copies of other work are eligible. |
| Viewer’s Choice: |
Viewer’s Choice is determined by the show’s attendees’ votes. |
| Mayor’s Choice: |
The Mayor of Bloomington, Indiana, determines the winner of this award. |
| Commissioner’s Choice: |
The Commissioners of Monroe County, Indiana, determine the winner of this award. |
| Judge’s Recognition: |
Each judge selects one recognition winner. |
- If you supply an E-mail address, shipping information will be sent via e-mail.
- If you prefer to receive shipping instructions by mail, you must include a Self-Addressed, Stamped,
Business-Sized (#10) Envelope (SASE).
- Entry Form and the non-refundable entry fee must be postmarked by February 1, 2010. Incomplete entries
will not be accepted. Entries are accepted in order of postmark date. IHQS is not a juried show, but
reserves the right to limit entries based on space constraints.
- Categories are not determined by size, but rather by the intended use, construction techniques, and number of participants in the making of the entry.
- Entry must not have been displayed in a previous Indiana Heritage Quilt Show.
- Entry may be completed by hand, machine or both. Entries must be made of three (3) layers of fabric and
hand or machine quilted. No tied quilts will be displayed or judged.
- Entries must have been completed after January 1, 2006 and be free of soil, smoke, odor and pet hair.
- Incomplete, damaged or soiled quilts may not qualify for display or judging.
- Entry must be permanently identified on the back.
- Entry must have a 4-inch sleeve attached to the top of the quilt, and all edges of the sleeve must be secured
to the quilt back. Small scale quilts must have a minimum 2” sleeve attached to the top of the quilt.
- If the entry has no hanging sleeve, it will not be displayed, and will be returned to the entrant.
- Quilts must be a single unit, without frames of wood, metal, etc. IHQS reserves the right to refuse, and
assumes no liability for, entries that require special handling. All entries will be folded. Please avoid
fragile embellishments.
- The Indiana Heritage Quilt Show reserves the right to reject any unqualified or misrepresented entry. All
decisions of the IHQS board of directors, and IHQS judges are final.
- Shipped items must arrive at IHQS between Monday, February 22 and Friday, February 26, 2010.
- Each entry must be in a separate box.
- Detailed shipping instructions will be mailed or e-mailed after the Entry Form is received by IHQS. Please
do not send your entry until you receive the shipping information packet. If you have not received your
packet by February 15, 2010 please e-mail entries@ihqs.org or phone 812-391-0009.
- A certified appraisal for insurance purposes is required if materials value exceeds $500.
- IHQS reserves the right to combine or subdivide categories based on the number of entries.
Non-Refundable Entry Fee is $10.00 per entry. Each entry must be accompanied by an Entry Form,
Entry Fee, Self-Addressed, Stamped Business-Size Envelope if shipping instructions are to be
mailed. Shipping instructions will be e-mailed whenever possible. Entry Form and non-refundable
Entry Fee must be postmarked by February 1, 2010. If you have questions regarding contest rules,
