#201 Frieda Anderson Frieda’s Fun Free Motion Machine Quilting

Frieda’s award winning quilts have been in many magazine articles and books.  She will lead you through a series of fun exercises where you will create one-of-a-kind free form machine quilts without marking or templates.  Each exercise leads you step by step in developing your own style and expertise to free motion quilting with confidence.

#202 Bonnie Lyn McCaffery Fantasy Fabric Sampler Workshop

Create several different fun pieces of fabric by trapping various items under a layer of tulle.  Some of these items will include Tintzl, feathers, threads, and sheer fabrics.  This class and technique are playful, quick, and instantly rewarding.

#203 Jo Morton Emma’s Quilt

This wonderful quilt, inspired by an antique crib quilt, was made with Jo’s Calicoes by Andover Fabrics but you may substitute fabrics to your liking.  In the morning you will begin the starch prep method for invisible machine appliqué and you will practice on a scrap background fabric and get the stitch settings for your machine.  In the afternoon learn Jo’s tips for accurate piecing on the two pieced borders and learn how to make no-waste  Flying Geese from squares and Jo’s pressing tips.

Skill level: Beginner with basic sewing skills - Intermediate

#204 Sue Nickels Baltimore Style Appliqué by Machine

Learn machine appliqué using a versatile raw edge fusible technique that is perfectly suited for the smaller more intricate style associated with Baltimore album blocks.  This project features folk art inspired images reminiscent of the beautiful quilts made during the 19th century.  Students will work on one block during the workshop and will receive the remaining patterns to complete this unique project.  Focus on quality workmanship that never compromises quality for speed!

Skill level: Advanced Beginner - Intermediate

#205 Nancy Odom Vinnie’s Double Pinwheel Quilt

From Jennifer Chiaverini’s novel The Cross-Country Quilters we meet Vinnie Burkholder, one of the first quilters to attend Elm Creek Quilt Camp.  Vinnie’s Double Pinwheel quilt was inspired by a class she took at an ECQ camp.  This 1930’s quilt block, while vibrant and moving, is known by the names Whirligig and Double Pinwheel.  Nancy takes you through a step-by-step workshop, breaking the block down into quarters, and makes piecing this intriguing block a breeze.  Finished size: 86” x 109”.

Skill level: Intermediate - Advanced

Paper foundation piecing, curved piecing, a drafting lesson (for those interested), and an informal lecture/discussion on organization of color in quilts.  This class works on a basic block from Karen’s “Lady Liberty” pattern.
