Description

This quilt is a tribute to the riches and complexity of African culture and arts. The traditional Dresden Plate block is explored in variations with African fabrics. Cowrie shells, primitive hand-stitched embellishments and digitized embroidery, jungle foliage, thread-painted animals & couched silk yarns expand the theme.

Description

Inspired by fairytale illustrations from childhood, this modern version of the appliquéd dahlia quilt of the thirties was re-drafted from a Pat Cox pattern. It was designed, curved pieced and machine appliquéd by Claudia Clark Myers. The machine quilting includes original designs by Marilyn Badger, and a border design by Dover. The border was quilted by Marilyn and then hand-painted by Claudia.
