Light Below The Surface by Sharon L. Schlotzhauer

This quilt is my depiction of a tropical reef and ocean floor illuminated by rays of sunlight penetrating the water surface above. I used various media and original techniques to create the coral, sea-grass, urchins and anemones. Every surface item was hand appliquéd to the quilt top. Source of Design: Original. Made and Quilted By: Sharon L. Schlotzhauer.

Pink Ladies by Susan Buschur

While making the appliqué blocks, based on Jeana Kimball's book, "Old Voices, New Impressions", I thought of women in my past. The name is a tribute to the hospital volunteers who shared their time to brighten the days of others.

Source of Design: Most appliqué blocks based on book by Jeana Kimball, "Old Voices, New Impressions".

Made and Quilted By: Susan Buschur.

Mixed Technique Amateur, Honorable Mention

Entry #918 "Bright Expectations" Maureen Squires Capshew Lanesville, IN

Bright Expectations by Maureen Squires Capshew

The inspiration for "Bright Expectations" began in a Ricky Tims' workshop last April at the AQS Show in Paducah . I began with a paper cutting and pieced much of the design. Trapunto is used in some of the appliqué pieces. A workshop with Diane Gaudinski inspired some of the free-hand designs. "Diane Shiko" was used in the black border. "Bright Expectations" was made for my son, Ben, as he graduates from high school.

Source of Design: Original.

Made and Quilted By: Maureen Squires Capshew.
