Wall Quilt Professional, First Place

Entry #801 "Revolutions" Carol Taylor Pittsford, NY

Revolutions by Carol Taylor   This quilt is about taking a motif and rotating it. How many revolutions does it take to make a circle or to create an entire composition? Hand-dyed sateens improvisationally pieced to give the illusion of three layers. One side has 70 small, highly-quilted motifs turned in different directions. The top layer consists of larger sizes of the motifs that have been rotated to form five circles positioned across the quilt in the lightest values. The bottom layer is two very large motifs in the darkest values which have revolved and form a half circle.

Wall Quilt Professional, Second Place

Entry #813 "Rhythmic Hues" Betty Ekern Suiter Racine, WI

Rhythmic Hues By Betty Ekern Suiter

Medallion set flowers, surrounded with leaves, an undulating trapunto feather surrounds the center, followed by an undulating vine set with leaves and berries. The four corners have appliquéd flowers, each different. The entire quilt is hand stippled at 1/16 inch. Hand-dyed blue fabric and hand appliqué. Stylized trapunto design fills the outer edge.

Wall Quilt Professional, Third Place

Entry #811 "Autumn Rhythm" Karen Hampton Evansville, IN

Autumn Rhythm by Karen Hampton   Patterns created by elements, lines, forms and colors of the fall. Original hand batik patterns on silk showcased in original, double- and triple-dyed cottons. Machine quilted with fine silk thread evolves the patterned recurring contrasting elements.

Wall Quilt Professional, Honorable Mention

Entry #818 "Toucan At Twilight" B. J. Titus Coatesville, PA

Toucan At Twilight by B. J. Titus   Given our busy schedules in this technology-driven world, I find sanctuary in my sewing studio. Surrounded by fabric, threads and an awaiting design wall, this is my so-called comfort zone. The idea for "Toucan at Twilight" was developed during a bit of daydreaming punctuated with memories of tropical elements. This original design was appliquéd and quilted using my home sewing machine. Mostly hand-dyed fabric was used in creating this quilt.
