Mayor's Choice

Entry #101 "What Is A Man That Thou Art Mindful Of Him" Nancy B. Mitchell Bloomington, IN

What Is A Man That Thou Art Mindful of Him by Nancy B. Mitchell

Made for the local guild challenge of circle theme. A compressed universe of sun, planets, comet, super-nova representing science, religion and art represented by Newton, Einstein, Hawking, DaVinci's Universal Man and four world-views. Circle is machine-quilted using concentric circles around four focal points. Outer grid of infinite universes is hand-quilted.

Commissioner's Choice

Entry #313 "Black Diamonds" Joanne Lovell Bloomington, IN

Black Diamonds by Joanne Lovell

I made this quilt for an antique rope bed, limiting the choice of fabrics in the dark half of each block and using black diamonds for a graphic design. My goal was a quilt with a traditional feeling that reflects my own individuality. Design is an original Courthouse steps variation. Source of the design was the American Quilters' Society.

Viewer's Choice

Entry #402 "24/7" Rachel Wetzler St. Charles, IL

24/7 by Rachel Wetzler   I cannot be seen, heard, felt, smelled or tasted. History records my passing. I am time. Find the rings symbolizing 60 seconds/minutes, 365 days, 25 world time zones. Clock faces declare the hours. Look for the four seasons, leap year and words quilted in outer space.

Judge's Choice

Entry #703 "Smoke On The Water" Jane Kennedy Lee's Summit, MO

Smoke On The Water by Jane Kennedy   After seeing the background fabric, I machine appliquéd the two large trees and pieces of land onto the firey-fabric. The quilting and thread work was all done using my Singer Featherweight machine.

Judge's Choice

Entry #203 "Treasures of Julia's Life" Joanie Zeier Poole Sun Prarie, WI

Treasures of Julia's Life by Joanie Zeier Poole   This original design honors the memory of my grandmother with quilted illustrations of her love of faith, family and music. The flowers are hand-appliquéd and I used my home sewing machine for the refined free-motion quilting called Heirloom Machine-Quilting.

Judge's Choice

Entry #205 "Visions" Suzanne Marshall Clayton, MO

These beasties are friendly and make me smile. Is it two-headed? Is it a beard or a tail? This quilt took more than two years to complete, being all hand appliquéd, embroidered and quilted. The design is from ancient printer's ornaments.
