Mixed Technique Amateur, First Place

Emtry #914 "Golden Anniversary" Janet H. Thomas Indianapolis, IN

Golden Anniversary by Janet H. Thomas   Machine-pieced, crazy-quilt background. Machine quilted and thread painted. Raw-edge appliqué, Art Nouveau inspired family tree. Photo transfers embedded in leaves, trunk and flora at roots recall 50-year chronology of family and friends that enriched the lives of our parents. Presented at Golden Anniversary celebration. Made and quilted by Amy Shue Hays.

Mixed Technique Amateur, Second Place

Entry #908 "Gloria Mundi" Sherry Boram Pendleton, IN

Gloria Mundi by Sherry Boram   Mandala design made from two commercial prints and solid black. Extensively embellished with beads and cording. "Gloria Mundi" (Glory of the Earth) was designed with the exquisite beauty of nature and life patterns in mind. It was juried into the 2003 Sacred Threads Show.

Mixed Technique Amateur, Third Place

Entry #909 "My Maine Heritage" Wendy Caton Reed Bath, ME

My Maine Heritage by Wendy Caton Reed   I made this quilt in the traditional Maine shape to accommodate a four poster bed. The fabrics represent those of the late 18th and early 19th century and the "medallion style" is in honor of my mother's side of the family who immigrated from England to Nova Scotia . It is machine pieced, hand appliquéd and hand quilted.

Mixed Technique Amateur, Honorable Mention

Entry #902 "Queen Anne's Lace" Nolita Wacaster Morganton, NC

Queen Anne's Lace by Nolita Wacaster   For "Queen Anne's Lace" I used a pattern by Nancy Marty of Bee Creative Studio, called "Mystic Midnight" and embellished it with machine-embroidered lace from Dakota Collectibles. In the center are stylized appliqué flowers. Surrounding this area are four bands of different fabrics, also containing appliqué flowers. It is embellished with decorative machine stitching.
