2005 Winners Gallery (Applique Amateur)

Applique Amateur, First Place

Entry #102 "Whig's Defeat" Carol G. Bensen Barrington Hills , IL

Whig's Defeat by Carol G. Bensen

This block originated around circa 1830-1850's blocks placed in a traditional 9-block setting, machine-appliquéd diamonds and plumes. Hearts, feathers and plumes done with trapunto. Machine appliquéd and quilted. Wool batting.

Applique Amateur, Second Place

Entry #107 "Ode To Quilted Lillies" Michael Kashey Edinboro , PA

Ode To Quilted Lillies

This quilt was inspired from the sweet-scented lilies grown in my garden. I designed this quilt in a formal radial format, like a kaleidoscope, to transport the viewer to a level of consciousness that transcends reality. I hand dye-painted, appliquéd, embroidered and quilted this piece using nature as the subject of this quilt.

Applique Amateur, Third Place

Entry # 106 "Summer Time Flowers" Leona Powers Mt. Sterling, OH

Summer Time Flowers by Leona Powers

This quilt is appliquéd with hand-dyed material from Lunn's Hand-Dyed Fabrics. I was inspired by the hand-dyed fabrics. I love to hand quilt, and try to make one hand-quilted quilt each year. This quilt took 210 days to appliqué and quilt.
